New venture MVP

Product Design

Client BPAY | Company Deloitte | Product Designer Emma Mirabelle

This project was a proposition design for a new financial managegment application. The project involved creating a minimal viable product (MVP) to take to market that was desirable, feasibile and viable.

We developed a hypothesis around the opportunity space where we beleived the client had a right to play and tested our hypothesis through running multiple experiments designed to validate 'risky assumptions' e.g. 'This proposition will be profitable?', 'People will pay for this service', 'People will use this service regularly'.

We prioritised possible features for inclusion in the MVP by understanding the client and customer needs. We carried out multiple workshops, interviews and surveys with prospective end-users who met criteria for our design target. We also conducted interviews with service providers and competitors in the industry. From the customer sessions we aimed to understand ways in which they currently manage their money, their perceptions around money management tools and budgeting, expectations around the company that would provide this service as well as the desirablity of the overall proposition we were designing.

As well as research, my role focused on designing the MVP version of this proposition. Our research indicated that a mobile app would be the most suitable platform due to the design target's likely behaviours e.g. they are often on the go, time poor, would benefit from regular reminders and would want to access the service regularly. I spent weeks iterating the low fidelity wireframes as we further understood the value proposition and vision for this proposition.

At the end of 6 weeks on the project, I had successfully designed many screens for the mobile app and clickable prototype. I was also involved in creating a video which showcased the designs and the problem that this app solved. The team had also created a commercial model, a thorough technical feasibility assessment and a roadmap which the client could use to decide next steps.
